A remarkable year at MUSC
By Dana R. Taylor, CFRE, Senior Director of Development, Gift and Estate Planning
As we are in our historic bicentennial year, MUSC continually strives to ensure our mission of preserving and optimizing human life for the people across all 46 South Carolina counties and beyond. The impact of our collective efforts is fueled by innovation and discovery because we are committed to the future by changing what’s possible in health care for the next generation. Many have given generously to help us accomplish this mission – we are grateful for every gift. As we celebrate our esteemed 200-year history, I thought I would share a few wonderful achievements we have enjoyed at MUSC just in the last year:
- MUSCC leads the state in sponsored research funding, with our fiscal year 2024 awards portfolio reaching more than $300 million.
- MUSC currently has an estimated $10.1 billion annual economic impact on the state of South Carolina.
- The Office of Institutional Advancement overall fundraising total for FY2024 was just over $100 million, the largest figure in MUSC’s history.
- MUSC Health has 2.46 million patient encounters annually.
- We are one of just two National Telehealth Centers of Excellence, a recognized national leader in telehealth.
- University Hospital was ranked as the No. 1 hospital in South Carolina for the 10th year in a row by U.S. News & World Report.
- There are nearly 3,200 students enrolled across our six colleges educating every dimension of health care provider.
- MUSC supports more than 1,200 clinical trials and 55 active faculty start-up companies to advance research and find the best treatment solutions for patients.
These remarkable figures underscore the extraordinary work being done at MUSC! I would encourage you to also consider how your generosity may make an impact at MUSC – if you have ever thought that you wish you could do more to support MUSC, we are always happy to talk with you about ways you can structure charitable estate giving that makes sense for you and your family. It would be an honor and joy to talk with you!
